I'm trying to find the balance these days...in many respects. Pushing myself/listening to my body, going out and being social/staying inside and relaxing, and also quite literally learning how to balance again.
I've been stalking your blog all afternoon and am so happy that I've found it! I broke my ankle (needing surgery with 1 plate and 8 screws) on June 10th and am currently in the "stuck on the couch with my foot elevated" stage. A few days ago they exchanged my cast for the boot and I'm trying to get used to it all. The transition hasn't been as nice as I thought it would have been. Anyway, reading through your process gives me hope that one day I'll walk and exercise again (I really miss my treadmill!). Thank you and happy healing to you!
@Julie: I'm so glad that you've found comfort in the blog - that was definitely the logic behind starting it. That FUCKING SUCKS that you broke your ankle, but don't worry, the steps toward healing do happen. They're slow, sometimes unbearable so, but they're there - you just have to take pleasure in the little things. Feel free to reach out anytime - if you want to email me directly my email is on the upper left side of the page. Good luck in your healing!!!
Thanks so much for putting together this blog. I just discovered it...and am loving it. I broke my leg and ankle 4 weeks ago--had surgery just over 3 weeks ago and still have to keep my leg elevated. All I want to do is get back on my feet. I sprained my ankle (other leg) about 2 years ago and it took me AGES to get my balance back--tai chi helped a great deal--but I know that my lack of balance is going to be an issue. Watching your video above is inspiring and simply awesome--I suspect I'm going to be watching it often in the weeks to come! (AND this is my favorite Nina Simone song...)
I'm so glad you found the blog. I started writing it just for people like you :)
Yes, the balance is really tough, but I've gotta tell you...now - nearly 2 months after that video - I've found so much more stability. Maybe that will be my next video, showing how far I've come :). So it DOES get better. It's not what it was before the surgery, but it's NOT what it is in this video either. I mostly attribute it to yoga, but tai chi is a great idea. Hm, maybe my next video should be a how-to for regaining balance!
Wishing you a full recovery as well - and while you wait, there's always Netflix.
